The Chief Secretary, accompanied by the Political

Adviser made a four day visit to Guangdong at the invitation

of the newly elected Governor, LIU Tianfu. As well as the

latter, the Chief Secretary met the Party First Secretary and

three Vice-Governors concerned respectively with economic

affairs, security and the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.

The visit was an opportunity to discuss not only economic links

with Guangdong, but other issues of common interest, in

particular, immigration, water supplies, cross border co-operation

and rabies.

In response to an invitation from the Director of the

Guangdong Posts and Telecommunications Bureau, the Postmaster

General also visited Guangzhou to discuss postal and communication

3.

The Governor of Fujian Province, MA Xingyuan, spent

several days in Hong Kong, during which he had a meeting with

the Governor.
