It was announced that a fourth generator, with a capacity of 125 megawatts, had begun operation at the Huangpu Power Station, ten miles east of Guangzhou. In all, the power station now has a capacity of 500 megawatts and is the largest in Guangdong.

Communications

After a two year gestation, the regular cross border coach service began on 25 June, with three coaches crossing daily in each direction, (paras 12 and 13 April 1981 Report). There have been no

serious difficulties so far.

15.

The Chu Kong (Pearl River) Shipping Company has bought a second-hand Italian vessel with a capacity for 300 passengers. It will shortly arrive to supplement the regular service between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, at present provided by a single ship sailing on alternate days.

A new Chinese language newspaper in Hong Kong, the Cheng Ming Daily, has been put on sale. Its publishers at present produce two monthly magazines, Cheng Ming and Tung Hsiang, which, although pro-communist have in the past written too frankly about China and have therefore been banned there (para 9 September 1979 Report). Not surprisingly, the local communist hierarchy hope for the new paper's early collapse.

Another new Chinese language publication the "Shenzhen Special Zone Herald" appeared in Hong Kong as a free trial issue. The Communist daily "Wen Wei Pao" has helped to set it up.

For the first time, a film made in China has been dubbed into

Cantonese in Hong Kong, in an effort to increase much needed box office receipts in Hong Kong.
