RECOMMENDED TUITION FEES FOR 1981-82

Recommended tuition fees for the academic year 1981-82 for students on further and higher education courses were announced by the Rt Hon Mark Carlisle, Secretary of State for Education and Science, in the House of Commons today.

Details were given in two Parliamentary Answers. One recommends subsidised fees for home students and overseas students who began their courses before 1 September 1980. · The other recommends full cost fees for overseas students who started after that date.

In a written reply to a Question from Mr Robert Dunn, MP for Dartford

who asked what fees would be charged for courses in higher and further education for the academic year 1981-82 to home students, and to overseas students who began their courses before 1 September 1980 respectively, Mr Carlisle said:-

{

"The recommended fees are as follows:·

Postgraduate:

Home

Overseas

£ 1,320

1,803

Undergraduate and equivalent:

Home Overseas

· 900

1,389

744

+Full-time non-advanced

Overseas

+Fees for home students on full-time non-advanced courses are a matter for

the local authority associations.

"The recommended fees for 1981-82 represent an increase of about 15 per cent over those for 1980-81. Some seven per cent of this is attributable to the amount by which · the increase in the fee for 1979-80 fell short of the actual movements in costs during that year; the rest allows for prospective pay and price increases in higher and further education.
