ANNEX A

( cession of territory postponed)

The Governments of the PRC and of the UK have agreed

as follows:

a) Hong Kong is historically part of China and will

revert to China in due course;

b)

if at any time after the expiration of [fifty

years] after this agreement comes into force

the Government of the PRC gives the Government

of the UK at least [fifteen years'] notice of its

desire to assume the administration of Hong Kong

then Hong Kong will revert to China on such date

after the expiration of the notice as may be

agreed between the two Governments in accordance

with such arrangements as may be so agreed;

c)

the UK will continue as hitherto to administer

Hong Kong (including the New Territories) until

such time as Hong Kong reverts to China in accordance

with this agreement;

a) this agreement will come into force on the date

on which it is signed.
