It is becoming increasingly apparent that the Chinese are contemplating similar solutions to the questions of Hong Kong and Taiwan

We shall need to some sort of'autonomous zone'. examine the Taiwan analogy more closely.

2. I should be grateful therefore if you would provide us with a note on what the Chinese have said on the ultimate resumption of Taiwan and how it would be integrated into China. This need not be very long, perhaps four pages, but it would be helpful if we could have it by the end of the month.
