Thank you for your letter of 16 April. I greatly enjoyed my visit to Hong Kong, and the subsequent trips to China and Japan also went well. I was delighted that we had a chance to meet at Government House before you were off
on your travels again.
Many thanks for drawing my attention to Ai Qing's poem. As you point out, both the terms he used and the timing of its publication are striking. It is always good to see such evidence of the friendship and co-operation that exist
between Peking and Hong Kong.
It should make a worthwhile
text for your speaking engagement.
