1. The Secretary of State is seeing Sir M MacLehose on 10 March.

I have submitted briefing separately.

The Governor wishes to discuss Lord Carrington's forthcoming

visit to the Far East and, in this context, may express views on

the handling of:

a) land leases in the New Territories; and

b) confidence in Hong Kong's future.

These matters are the subject of the attached submission which

covers the draft briefs for the Secretary of State's use in Hong

Kong and Peking.
