Oh well!
Fung King-hei's meeting in London. They caused some wry amusement as Mr Fung's assistant, Jack So, an ex-Administrative Officer with HKG, is shown as James So who will shortly succeed me as Private Secretary!
In case you do not already know, the PS post is being upgraded to Staff Grade B and an additional Administrative Officer, Robin Gill, is being drafted in as APS. My handover to James has already started and the transformation will be completed just before Christmas. Then, the new year will see me in charge of a new initiative in the improvement of conditions in the squatter areas always assuming they have not all been burnt down by then. The carrot at the end of this particular stick is the promise of a sabbatical in mid-1983.

Although the prospect of flying-free is sweet, I will have many regrets at leaving the splendour and occasional chaos of G.H. has been a marvellous experience and I have enjoyed it all immensely. So in my final despatch allow me to thank you for all your help over the last two-and-a-bit years. Your visits have always been fun, if hectic, and I hope that you will find time on the next one either for a drink and a chat or a trek around my new kingdom.
Ebanks for evay clang,
