POSSIBLE VISIT BY ME BLAKER TO THE FAR EAST P

In your letter of 29 January to Hugh Cortazzi you asked for comments on the proposal that Mr Blaker might pay a three week visit to the Far East, within the last two weeks of September and the first week of October, starting and finishing in Hong Kong.

For planning purposes it is worth bearing in mind that: -

Monday September 14 is the Mid Autumn Festival Tuesday October 6 is the Chung Yeung Festival Wednesday October 7 I deliver my Annual LegCo Speech.

Since the period before the LegCo Speech is frenzied the timing is not ideal, but from my point of view it would be much more convenient if the weighting of the visit tended to the beginning of October rather than mid-September since I ought to have the draft completed by 1 October.

However none of the problems involved in this will be insuperable and Mr Blaker will be very welcome at whatever time suits him best.
