GKN have been invited to bid for this contract, worth £65 m., UK content £35 m. The closing date for bids is September and the contract is expected to be awarded in April 1982.

Automotive project. British Leyland and GKN are interested in the assembly/manufacture contract and the manufacture of components contract respectively.

Contract values are not known

but PE (who recently lost the consultancy contract to a German consortium) estimate the total project to be worth £300-500 m.

6 Other projects might be added nearer the time, including various oil and gas developments (Worley Engineering and William Press), the Al-Madain and Babylon power stations (Babcocks and NEI), consultancy for a £200 m. cold stores project (Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick and Freeman Fox), and computerisation of engineering complexes (PE International Operations). A large number of projects in the water and sewerage sector will be discussed by Mr Tom King, Minister of State, DOE, who is leading a water mission to Iraq in November.
