BIDS FOR ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND
11. The Monopolies and Mergers Commission are expected to send
their report on these bids to Secretary of State for Trade before
Christmas. He will then publish it with his conclusions before
the end of February.
12. There has been press speculation that HMG was considering
general legislation to control bank takeovers. Proposal not being
pursued. [See Brief No 9]
