THE FUTURE OF HONG KONG
1. Her Majesty's Government reaffirm their continuing commitment
to Hong Kong and its people. We and the Chinese Government
share an interest in the maintenance of stability and prosperity
in Hong Kong. Vice-Chairman Deng Xiaoping strongly exphasised,
during my right honourable and noble Friend's visit to Peking,
China's assurances that investors in the Territory need have
no fears for the future.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
2.3)The large influx in recent years of illegal immigrants from
China caused considerable economic and social difficulties in
Hong Kong. A more effective control was therefore needed.
The new measures have proved a success, and the Police and
Garrison have performed extremely well in implementing them.
