We spoke about the arrangements for a curtain-raising

briefing before Lord Carrington's visit to Pakistan, Hong Kong,

and Japan. You have kindly agreed to conduct such a briefing at 4.00 p.m. on Wednesday, 25 March in room 25. This will be an unattributable, background briefing for a fairly large group of

British diplomatic correspondents, including those who are to come

with us on the tour.

2.

The other recipients of this minute will wish to be aware of this arrangement. They are welcome to be present (or to be represented) if they wish. In particular, Mr McLaren may like to come, since he will be travelling with Lord Carrington.

3.

I am asking Miss Whiting to make arrangements

accordingly.
