Assistance Scheme

Purpose

To consider the Grant Schools Council's proposal for ESF- type financing arrangements.

To examine the existing arrangements for financial assistance with the purchas- ing of textbooks.

Progress made and present position

The Grant Schools Council submitted pro- posals in May 1981. The Director of Education made counter-proposals, which will be discussed between this Branch and the Education Department.

The Director of Education submitted proposals to increase and extend the present form of financial assistance. Following clarification of the proposals, policy approval in principle has been given and Finance Branch has been asked to consider the level of assistance.

Next quarter target

To consider the counter- proposals and to consult the Board of Education, and, if, necessary, the Executive Council.

To finalise the scheme.
