Bill 1980 was introduced into the Legislative Council on 19 November 1980, but the Second Reading debate and the remaining stages of the Bill deferred until 11 February 1981 to enable Unofficial Members to have more time to examine its implications. As a result of these discussions certain amend- ments will be proposed at the Committee Stage to limit the provisions in respect of young girls to those who are with child before their 16th birthday and to ensure that both this provision and that applicable to rape and incest victims are brought within the generality of the existing law which only permits abortion on medical grounds.
