Re-organisation of Works, Lands and Transport
.17.
On 14th April Executive Council agreed in
principle to the following
:
(a) the creation in Government Secretariat of
(i) à Lands and Works Branch and
a
(ii) a Transport Branch,
in place of the existing Environment Branch.
(b) the creation of :
(i) a Lands Department and
(ii) a number of independent "Works" departments,
in place of the existing Public Works Department.
It was also agreed that the remaining functions of the
Environment Branch (environmental protection and urban
services and countryside conservation) should as an interim
measure be assumed by the Director of Administration and
Management Services, and may evolve eventually as part of
the Chief Secretary's Office.
18.
A brief press announcement of the Executive
Council decision was made. The re-organisation was
generally welcomed as a step in the right direction.
