SoCo and 9 other organisations held a seminar on "Housing Problems of Boat People". Mrs. E. Elliott was amongst the speakers and criticise&overnment's housing policy in general. A joint public statement was later issued by "Ten Groups Regarding the Boat People's Housing Problems". The seminar set the trend of "joint effort" on this topic and from the composition list it could be deduced that post-secondary students were playing a significant role. Though boat people representatives were present at the seminar, HAD's observation indicated that the students' and social workers appeared to be more insistent than the boat people and that they attempted to make the most

of the issue.

HAD feedback (as recorded in HAIG minutes dated 2.10.78) showed that the public did not react to the publication of the HKU Student Union report.

Representatives of boat people and the "Joint Committee on Accommodation Problems of Boat Dwellers" presented petitions

S for H and UMELCO.

to.

The J.0.A.P.B.D. petitioned the Chief Secretary.
