Queen's Speech
QUEEN'S SPEECH
Mr. Speaker: I have to acquaint the House that this House has this day attended Her Majesty in the House of Peers, and that Her Majesty was pleased to make a Most Gracious Speech from the Throne to both Houses of Parliament, of which I have, for greater accuracy, obtained a copy.
I shall direct that the terms of the Gracious Speech be printed at the appro- priate place in the Votes and Proceed- ings. Copies are available in the Vote Office:
Before I call those hon. Members who are to propose and second the motion on the Loyal Address, it may help the House if I announce the proposed pattern of subjects for the debates on the Queen's Address. They are as follows: Friday 21 November-social services; Monday affairs .and 24 November--foreign defence; Tuesday 25 November--hous- ing; Wednesday 26 November- unem- ployment; Thursday 27 November-- industry and the economy.

My Lords and Members of the House of Commons:
I take great pleasure in the current State Visit of His Majesty the King of Nepal, and look forward to visiting later this month Belgium, the Commis- sion of the European Communities, and the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
I look forward with equal pleasure to visiting Norway, Australia, New Zea- land and Sri Lanka, and to being pre- sent in Melbourne on the occasion of the next meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government.
My Government believe that the best hope of lasting peace lies in the effective maintenance of Western security. They therefore attach great importance to defence and 10 contributing fully to the North Atlantic Alliance. They will con- tinue to press for the complete with- drawal of Soviet troops from Afghani- stan and for a political settlement acceptable to the Afghan people. Des- pite events in Afghanistan and Cam- bodia, they will continue to seek more
