7. It was to Mr Webster's successor, Mr Gumbs, who, with his Ministers was generally patient over the issue of final separation, that successive British Governments gave assurances of early action on the issue. But it is Mr Webster who, after his success in the election of May 1980, is now back as Chief Minister to see his ambition fulfilled.
As a further irony,, relations between St Kitts and Anguilla have improved and Dr Simmonds will be an honoured guest at the forthcoming ceremonies.
