Dear Mr Pagrail

Further to my letter of 31 July 1981, I am now returning to you your proof page headed the West Indies for publication in this year's edition of 'The International Year Book and Statesmen's Who's Who'. I am sorry that you have not received an earlier reply.

I enclose also an amended version, to take into account the major changes which have occurred during the past year. You will wish to note the following developments.

Anguilla was formally separated from St Kitts-Nevis in December 1980 by the Anguilla Act 1980. A separate entry is therefore required for Anguilla.

Antigua is due to become independent on 1 November 1981 and will be entitled Antigua and Barbuda. If the book is to be published after that date, then Antigua should no longer be included under the West Indies Associated States, although I note that the page heading seems to cover independent states. An entry for Antigua and Barbuda will be needed somewhere in the publication together with St Vincent and the Grenadines, which gained independence in 1979.

I hope that this amended material will be satisfactory for inclusion in your publication.

Yours sincerely Sally E. Battan
