1. Mr Nigel Forman MP came to see me today as he said he might in his letter of 2 March to Mr Ridley.

2. I was able to answer most of his questions but he requires the following additional information:-

(a) What is the grand total of HMG's financial

support to all of the dependent territories including:-

(i) grant in aid/budgetary aid,

(ii (iii)

technical assistance, defence;

(b) To what extent has the cut back in the aid

programme affected (a) (i) and (a) (ii) above; will dependent territories suffer less or more than independent countries?

(c)

What is the latest line on BIOT and the use of Diego Garcia for the RDF?

(d) How many "micro States" are members of the UN

and what is their respective GNP?

Please consult the various geographical departments on (a), ODA on (b), EAD on (c) and UND and CCD on (d). I believe the Commonwealth Secretariat produced a paper on the problems of the micro States quite recently and this might contain useful definitions.
