HONG KONG

In October 1980, HMG and the Hong Kong Government signed a new Defence Costs Agreement to run for 7 years from 1 April 1981. The Hong Kong Government contributes 75% of the costs which is

£90 million.

HMG will meet the cost of the remaining 25% which will be approximately £30 million. The present Hong Kong Garrison consists of 4 infantry battalions plus support units. Under the terms of the new agreement, this figure will rise to 5 battalions plus support units.
