FRAIS TYPE ALLOWANCES

1. As a result of French's Letter of 4 November from the Hong Kong Government Secretariat to Clift in Hong Kong and General Department (copy attached for ease of reference) about the payment of a supplementary allowance of HK$1,350 a month for airconditioning, we have now revised your allowances to include this extra amount with effect from your date of arrival in Hong Kong. The sum of £1458 a year represents the net figure after deduction of the 2.8% abatement when you are on home-paid leave. A revised summary of your frais-type allowances is enclosed. Payment will be made, with arrears, with your December emoluments.

2. When you move from the duplex flat for which this supplement is payable perhaps you would Let me know so that your allowances can be re-adjusted.

3. Perhaps you would also show this letter to French in the Government Secretariat as confirmation that we have agreed to the request in paragraph 5 of his letter.
