thereafter, the review period should run from 1st April of the preceding year to 31st March of the year of review, and any resultant award should be applied to pensions in payment on 1st April of the year of review and take effect from that same date.
Financial implications
8
The implementation of the proposed modifications would have the effect of advancing payment of the next pension award by six months. Based on pensions in payment, the additional cost for 1981/82 would be in the region of $12.5 million if the next award was for an increase of pensions by 10%.
Public relations aspects
9
The proposed modifications would generally be welcomed by retired civil servants and would probably be considered reasonable by the community at large.
Advice sought
10
Members will be asked to advise whether the proposed modifications to the existing criteria, as described in paragraphs 5 and 7 of this memorandum, should be adopted.
(The Secretary for the Civil Service (Mr Martin ROW LANDS) will attend before the Council for the discussion of this item).
