The Austrian Charge d'Affaires a. i. presents his com-
pliments to Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for
Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and has the honour to
inform Lord Carrington that tourists holding Hong Kong
British Passports still are required to obtain an Austrian
visa before entering into Austria. To facilitate travels bet-
ween Hong Kong and Austria the Austrian authorities are pre-
pared to abolish visas for these tourists provided that Her
Majesty's Government accepts back into its territory at any
time persons holding a Hong Kong British passport and who
have entered Austria under the terms of the Agreement bet- ween the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ire-
land and the Republic of Austria concerning the abolition of
visas. In this case the competent Austrian authorities propose
to amend accordingly the aforementioned Agreement.
The Austrian Charge d'Affaires a. i. should be grateful
to learn if an amendment to the said Agreement in the proposed
way would be agreeable to Her Majesty's Government and avails himself of this opportunity to renew to Her Majesty's
Principal Secretary of State the assurances of his highest
consideration.
