EXTENSION OF VALIDITY OF MULINIBLE-ENTRY\VISAS GRANTED TO HONG KONG CITIZENS TRAVELLING TO THE USA AND US CITIZENS GOING TO HONG KONG

1.

I attach a self-explanatory telegram about new American

proposals to:

2.

(a) lengthen from 4 to 5 years the validity of

multiple visas for US and Hong Kong citizens on a reciprocal basis;

(b) impose fees in respect of student and

working visas issued to Hong Kong

citizens going to the USA.

Hong Kong seek our views. Item (a) is advantageous for Hong Kong citizens whilst (b) seems entirely reasonable on the part of the US authorities.

3. We propose to indicate that we have no objection. Do you have any comment before we do so?
