REGISTRY Action Taken

Aw alst

1. The Clerk to the Committee has asked PCCU for an FCO memorandum commenting on problems relating to passport and visa difficulties facing British businessmen as compared with the relative ease of access to this country by exporters from other countries. I attach a copy of the Clerk's letter. A copy has also been sent to the Home Office and the Department of Trade.

2.

TRED has agreed to coordinate this exercise and produce a memorandum for the Committee. The Chief Passport Officer, has provided details relating to the issue of passports. should be grateful if geographical departments would let me have a note of any difficulties businessmen have encountered in travelling to countries within their departmental areas. would be helpful if the note could be prepared in a form suitable for attaching as an annex to the memorandum.

3.

It

As the Clerk to the Committee requires the FCO memorandum by 16 May, and as it will have to be cleared with Ministers, I should be grateful to have your contributions, return, by noon 9 May.
