Aw 2014

Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign and Common- wealth Affairs presents his compliments to the Austrian Chargé

d'Affaires and has the honour to refer to the latter's note of 16

April about the requirement for tourists holding Hong Kong British

passports to obtain Austrian visas before entering Austria.

Holders of Hong Kong British passports may be subject to United

Kingdom immigration control. Her Majesty's Government cannot there-

fore agree to accept bearers of such passports back into the United

Kingdom at any time as proposed. The Hong Kong authorities, however,

unreservedly agree to accept back into Hong Kong at any time any

holders of Hong Kong British passports and Her Majesty's Government

hope that the Austrian authorities will consider this guarantee

sufficient to enable them to abolish the need for holders of Hong

Kong British passports to obtain Austrian visas for visits to

Austria. Her Majesty's Government would be glad to discuss this

matter further with the Austrian authorities.

The Secretary of State avails himself of this opportunity to express to the Chargé d'Affaires the assurance of his highest consideration.
