NOTE VERBALE
No. 273
Her Britannic Majesty's Embassy present their compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and have the honour to refer to the Ministry's Note Verbale No. 176/5 of 4 July drawing attention to the changed status of certain British Dependent Territories since these were included in the bilateral visa abolition agreement of May 1960.
It is recognised that a number of former British Dependent Territories, whose passport holders qualified under the Exchange of Notes of 20 and 23 May 1960 to enter Spanish Territory without the necessity of a visa, have become independent and thus no longer fall within the scope of this agreement. However, Hong Kong, which was specifically included in the Ministry's Note Verbale No. 157 of 20 May 1960 continues to be a British Dependent Territory. In accordance, therefore, with the terms mutually agreed at that time, the Embassy trust that holders of valid Hong Kong passports will continue to be allowed to enter Spanish Territory without the necessity of a visa.
The Embassy would be grateful to
have confirmation of this as soon as possible.
Her Britannic Majesty's Embassy avail themselves of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the assurance of their highest consideration.
