BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED KINGDOM
OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND AND THE REPUBLIC OF AUSTRIA REGARDING THE ABOLITION OF VISAS

I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that to facilitate travel between the United Kingdom and Austria, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are prepared to conclude with the Republic of Austria an Agreement in the following terms:
(1) (a) Persons holding any one of the travel documents specified hereinafter shall be free to travel to Austria from any place whatsoever without a visa:

(i) a valid passport bearing on the cover the inscription "British Passport" at the top, and at the bottom the inscription "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or Jersey" or "Guernsey and its Dependencies" or "Gibraltar", and inside the description of the holder's national status as "British subject, citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies ΟΙ British subject, citizen of the United Kingdom, Islands and Colonies "; or

(ii) a valid passport issued in the United Kingdom or the Channel Islands, or by the British Embassy in Dublin, in which the national status of the holder is described as “British subject” or “British Protected Person"; or
(iii) a valid British Visitor's Passport in accordance with the specimen
which is enclosed as Annex A;(1) or
(iv) an Emergency Passport in accordance with the specimen which is
enclosed as Annex B.(1)
(b) Persons who have entered Austria holding the documents specified in sub-paragraphs (a) (i) or (ii) above are entitled to stay in the territory of the Austrian Republic for a period of six months from the date of their arrival. The right to stay may be extended by the competent Austrian authority.
(c) Persons who have entered Austria holding the document specified in sub-paragraph (a) (iii) above are entitled to stay in the territory of the Austrian Republic for a period of three months from the date of their arrival. This period may be extended by the competent Austrian authority provided the person concerned first obtains a valid British passport bearing on its cover the inscription "British Passport ".
