The Ministry of Defence have sent us a copy of a telegram from CAPIC Hong Kong reporting that HQBF have been unsuccessful in their negotiations with the Hong Kong Government to stop your Department from stamping the passports of servicemen and their dependents with words to the effect that they are members or dependents of members of Her Majesty's Forces.
The telegram is brief but I gather that this practice causes difficulties for naval personnel or dependents intending to visit China.
I should be most grateful for a note explaining the present situation on this so that I can reply to the MOD.
