Why is there only one registration centre?

The accommodation is considered adequate for the purpose. The Victoria Barracks centre is well known and accessible. Splitting available staff resources would slow down rather than speed up registration.
Why is there only a three-day period in which illegal immigrants from China can apply for registration? This is a sufficient period to allow all illegal immigrants from China who have not already registered to do so. It must also be remembered that as the Governor said recently there is a very large number of would-be illegal immigrants in China who might be tempted to cross into Hong Kong while registration was going on. Therefore, the shortest, reasonable time. must be allowed bearing in mind that the longer the "grace "period the more likely it is people will try to sneak into Hong Kong. After weighing these aspects three days was considered the most reasonable.
Does the Government have any intention of revoking the Bill after a certain period?
No. It has been passed into law.
What does the good citizen do?
Carry proof of identity. Does not employ illegal immigrants. Report to the Immigration Department suspected illegal immigrants.
What about expatriates working for the Hong Kong Government, who should have, but never did, register? They should do so as soon as possible in their own interests.
