Dear Pattick,

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION:

SHOOTING INCIDENT IN MIRS BAY

The two people who were killed in this incident have now been identified in a story published in the local left-wing newspaper Wen Wei Pao (copy attached). The same newspaper has also carried a circumstantial account of the circumstances in which this snakeboat was fired on, based on sources in China. This sounds highly plausible. The Police here have already been given three different versions of the incident from the third person who was injured and managed to swim to Ping Chau. We do not intend to take any further action with the NCNA but will let you know if they provide us with an official Chinese account of the incident as we have already requested (see our telno 776 of 17 June).
