Contacts with the public of a different kind are made by the Police, who estimate that they approach some one million persons a year.

2. The identity card is also being widely used in the private sector. In particular, it is used in the following activities:-

(a) opening of bank accounts;

(b) selling of goods on hire purchase terms; and

(c) very often, applications for jobs.
