Dear Dabrick,
TA KUNG PAO AND IMMIGRATION FROM CHINA
You will be interested to see the enclosed story on page 19 of the weekly English language edition of the Ta Kung Pao of 14 February headlined 'Influx of immigrants weakens local consuming power' This is the first time we can remember seeing a reference in the local left-wing press to immigration from China putting the subject firmly in the context of the damaging effects to Hong Kong. There has, of course, been considerable coverage of illegal immigration in which particular attention is given to the activities of syndicates in Hong Kong. It is a mildly encouraging straw in the wind to see a story like this which mentions legal as well as illegal immigrants.
