7.72 The preserved entitlement is not to be repeated in the Bill, but we wish to provide that for a period of 2 years following the commencement of the new Act any person who satisfies the Secretary of State that he qualified for the entitlement at the commencement of the new Act by reason of ordinary residence in a dependency and would have continued to qualify for the entitlement by reason of such residence had the relevant provisions about it not been repealed by the Bill is to be entitled to registration by the

Secretary of State as a citizen of the EDT. An application for

this purpose must be received by the Secretary of State before the

expiry of the 2 year period.

7.73 A woman who, immediately before the commencement of the nex Act, has an entitlement to be registered under section 6(2) of the 1948 Act by virtue of having been carried to a citizen of the United Kingdon and Colories is to have an entitlement to be

registered by the Secretary of State as a citizen of the RDT if

the husband in question becomes such a citizen and she is still

married to him at the time of making the application.

Application

for this purpose must be received by the Secretary of State within

2 years of the commencement of the new Act.

7.74 In the case of a woman who has a section (2) entitlement

innediately before the commencement of the new hot but whose

carriage to the husband in question has ceased tough death c

dissolution (whether before or after the commencement of the new

Act), the Secretary of State is to have a discretionary power to

register her as a citizen of the FDT if the makaal becomes,

would but for his death have become, such a citicon.
