100. A Citizen of the British Dependent Territories will be eligible for a passport describing him as such. In addition, dependencies will be able to continue to issue passports with the name of the dependency on the cover and on the title page.

Citizenship of the British Dependent Territories by Birth.

101. It will be proposed in the Bill that citizenship shall be acquired by all persons who are born in the territory of a dependency with perhaps the same exception as is provisionally envisaged for British Citizenship in paragraph 44 where neither parent is in the dependency free of immigration control.

Citizenship by Descent.

102. The Government's proposals about citizenship by descent will be on

broadly the same lines as are proposed for British Citizenship.

Citizenship by Naturalisation

103. The rules for acquiring Citizenship of the British Dependent Territories

by naturalisation in a dependency will be on the same lines as are suggested fc: British Citizenship. Provision will however be made for a person to qualify

by reason of his knowledge of a language locally recognised in the dependency

for official purposes as an alternative to English. Provision will also be

made for acquisition by virtue of Crown Service under the Colonial Government

at the discretion of the Governor.

Other Provisions.

104.

The arrangements for the registration of minor children, acquisition

on grounds of marriage and for the resumption, renunciation and deprivation of citizenship; will be on the same lines as described for British

Citizenship above with the powers exercised by the Governor.
