The UPGC has been consulted on the proposed management arrangements and has indicated that it would have no objection to the proposals. Informal discussions with the Vice-Chancellor indicated: that they are likely to be acceptable to the University of Hong Kong.
Public Relations
16.
It is not thought that there will be any wide public interest in the management arrangements for the Dental Teaching Hospital. The proposed fees, being closely related to charges in Government hospitals and clinics, are also not likely to arouse public comment.
Advice Sought
17.
Members will be asked to advise:
(a) whether a statutory Board of Governors, on the
lines proposed in paragraphs 6-11 of this memorandum, should be set up to be responsible for the commissioning and management of the Dental Teaching Hospital;
(b) whether a Provisional Board as proposed in
paragraph 12 should be appointed by the Governor;
(c) whether subject to (a) and (b) above the fees proposed in Annex A should be approved for guidance of the Provisional Board.
(The Secretary for Social Services (Mr. E. P. HO), the Director of Medical and Health Services (Dr. K. L. THONG) and the Secretary, University and Polytechnic Grants Committee (Mr. S. F. BAILEY) will attend before the Council for the discussion of this item).
