As the purpose of the legislation is to improve the environment for the benefit of the community, it is expected that the proposals will be generally welcomed. In the New Territories the Heung Yee Kuk will be informed before the bill is gazetted. The Environmental Hygiene Select Committee of the Urban Council, in conjunction with Information Services Department and the Public Information Unit of the Urban Services Department, will be asked to arrange adequate publicity coverage for the Bill, if enacted.

Members will be asked to advise whether the Public Health and Urban Services (Amendment) Bill 1980, as annexed, should be intro- duced into the Legislative Council.

(The Director of Urban Services (Mr B. D. WILSON) and the Deputy Law Draftsman (Mr J. F. MATHEWS) will attend before the Council for the discussion of this item.)
