VIETNAMESE REFUGEES: CANADIAN PROGRAMME IN HONG KONG

The Canadian programme has been the most reliable major component in overall resettlement of boat refugees from Hong Kong. We know that the Canadian Commission sometimes feel that they are not given sufficient credit for this. We, therefore, took the opportunity of a Boeing 747 charter flight on 12 February to make sure that the Canadians were in no doubt about our gratitude, The Chief Secretary, Sir Jack Cater, wrote to the Commissioner (copy attached) and this letter was used in a press story covering the departure of this flight (also enclosed).

We remain grateful for your efforts in keeping the problem of refugees here before officials in Canada. Please let us know, at any stage, if we can send any supplementary material which would help.
