Mr. Christensen opened the meeting by explaining the role and function

of the Danish Refugee Council which consists of 12 voluntary agencies.

Its work is divided into two main areas: the national and the interna-

tional aspects of refugee work. The international work is carried out with funds raised during special campaigns supplemented by grants from

Government.

The national work is covered by grants from the Ministry of Social

Welfare. The Danish Refugee Council has been entrusted to look after

refugees who have been accepted by the Ministry of Justice as refugees. Its work includes housing, education, employment, child care and

health services.

Mr. Tillisch then outlined his Government's present policy regarding Vietnamese Boat Refugees. Denmark has so far only taken a very

limited number of boat refugees and rescued by their merchant ships.
