The numbers under detention represents the number of Vietnamese Refugees who have been settled in China. before coming to Hong Kong illegally.
9,030 Refugees have arrived since 1 January 1980. The increase of 887 since 5 August is due to the arrival of twenty-three small boats and the "Sea Lionet" and "Nedlloyd Hong Kong" which rescued 9 and 44 refugees respectively.
UNHCR has resettled 23,637 refugees since 1 January of which 332 in the past week.
