REPORT ON HUMAN RIGHTS IN HONG KONG

1. We have noted reports in the press that 14 local bodies have compiled a report on human rights in Hong Kong and intend to put it to the UN Human Rights Committee. We have no way of telling whether this will actually happen and would therefore be grateful

for a report.

We would be particularly interested in your assessment of whether this will go to the UN and, if so, when.

If you think it likely that this is going to become a major issue, it would be helpful if you copy your reply to Peking and New York.
