At the same time, poor rural families who were

evacuated from their land because of rural development were forced

inte tamperary housings which are wooden barracks. When the boat people expressed their demands, and when the rural families

refused to be evacuated unjustly, their peaceful acts of justice

were treated as rieting, and were suppressed with violence.

To the outside world, Hong Kong is an economically

and materially developed city, yet in reality the material

progress is accompanied with the violation of the people's civil

and political rights. ▲s a result, people cannot take part in deciding their own lifes. This suppression of people's participation

further aggravate the situation of the deprived groups in

Hong Kong.

We believe that a truly democratic society is

one in which people can participate in the development of their society and their own lifes. These rights and powers must be

guaranteed. In the so called "consultation " system, power lies with the ruling elites; in participation, power lies with

the people.
