by university students against corruption within the
Government bureaucracy.
1978--- Demonstration to claim back
wages by the employees of a television company after
its closure.
1979--- Petitioning to the Government
by the boat people in Yaumatel Typhoon Shelter for early
resettlement on land.

Agency by the Revolution Marxist League against lack
of democracy in China.
1979--- Refusal to move out of homes by
villagers in On Lok Chuen during a landlord-tenants
dispute over compensation for removal.
1979--- Villagers hindering torture of
illegal immigrants from China by border soldiers.
Other than these, the Police has frequently
used the Ordinance to threaten or disperse anti-Government
demonstrations and meetings, especially after the arrest
of the Yaumatei boat people.
All these were peaceful and quite uneventful
and did not cause the least disturbance of public order until the Police stepped in and started controlling.
The Police actions caused a lot of unrest instead.
Due to mounting opposition pressure from 148001 different sectors of society, the Government finally
agreed to amend the absurd Ordinance.
