(c) Labour force participation rate of children aged 12 and 13 is defined as the proportion which the number of persons aged 12 and 13 who were working or unemployed bears to the total number of persons aged 12 and 13.

I. ORGANIZATION OF THE SESSION

Introduction

1.

The Working Group on Slavery was established by the Sub-Commission in resolution 11 (XXVII) of 21 August 1974, as authorized by the Economic and Social Council in decision 17(LVI) of 17 May 1974.1/

2. The Group held its fifth session at Geneva on 16, 17 and 24 August 1979. It was unable to meet on 15 August 1979, as scheduled, for lack of a quorum.

Participation

3.

Mr. Mario Amadeo, Mr. Dumitru Ceausu, Mr. Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury, Mrs. Halima Embarek Warzazi and Mr. Benjamin Whitaker had been appointed members of the Group for the fifth session by the Chairman of the thirty-first session of the Sub-Commission, in accordance with Sub-Commission resolution 11 (XXVII). Mr. Amadeo could not attend the first part of the session, but he joined later. Mrs. Warzazi was unable to attend the session of the Group.

The following specialized agencies of the United Nations were represented at the session: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (represented by Mr. O.A. Sabry, Senior Officer, (Land Tenure and Settlement), Human Resources, Institutions and Agrarian Reform Division); International Labour Organisation

represented by Mr. Lee Swepston and Mrs. Anna-Juliette Pouyat, International Labour Standards Department); United Nations Educational, Scientifi and Cultural Organisation (represented by Mr. Victor Nikolsky, Liaison Officer).
