Drafting of the first bill has just commenced and it is hoped to submit it to Council for consideration around February 1980. Drafting instructions for the second bill are being prepared and it is hoped to have this ready for consideration by Council towards the end of 1980.

Employment Ordinance

If the first bill mentioned above is enacted, the existing wage ceiling for non-manual workers in the Workmen's Compensation Ordinance will be removed. In that eventuality, the Commissioner for Labour, after further consultation with employers, will consider submitting formal proposals for removing also the existing wage ceiling for non-manual workers ($3,500 per month) under the Employment Crdinance, in order to bring the provisions of the two Ordinances into line.
