(vi) in the proviso by deleting "$13,500" and substituting the following-

"$21,000"; and

(f) in paragraph (d) by deleting "$4,000" and substituting the

following

"$5,000".

4. The principal Ordinance is amended by adding after the Third Schedule the following-

An Ordinance to amend the Coroners Ordinance and to make a

sequential amendment to the Judicial Service Commission Ordinance.

[25 July 1980]

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Coroners (Amendment) Short title. Ordinance 1980.

Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof.

Amendment of section 2.

Section 2 of the principal Ordinance is amended- (a) in the definition of "coroner" by deleting "magistrate" and sub- (Cap. 14.)

stituting the following-

"coroner"; and

(b) in the definition of "official custody" by inserting after para-

graph (a) the following-

"(aa) in the custody of an officer of the Independent Com- mission Against Corruption or other officer having statutory powers of arrest or detention; or".

Section 3 of the principal Ordinance is amended by deleting Amendment of subsection (1) and substituting the following-

"(1) The Governor may appoint such number of coroners as he considers necessary.

(1A) No person shall be appointed to be a coroner unless he is qualified to practise as a barrister, solicitor or advocate in a court in Hong Kong, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, or some other part of the Commonwealth, or the Republic of Ireland, having unlimited jurisdiction either in civil or criminal matters.".

4. Section 6(5) of the principal Ordinance is amended by deleting Amendment of "forthwith" and substituting the following-

"upon the request of the Attorney General".

5. Section 11 of the principal Ordinance is amended by deleting Amendment of subsection (4) and substituting the following-

summons in "(4) Any juror who, having been served with a accordance with this section fails, without reasonable excuse, to attend an inquiry pursuant to such summons or at any adjournment of an inquiry shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable to a fine of $3,000.".
