As you will no doubt see from your copies of South China Morning Post and the Hong Kong Standard, Mr. Nott's decision announced on 18 June has been generally welcomed here. The threatened clouds of irrational reaction against our exports have passed away!

2. There is one minor administrative point which I should be grateful if you would put to Personnel Services Department. I assume that members of the Service may now travel to London on duty or leave by British Caledonian as well as BA and that Laker Airways will also qualify once his new service starts. But what about Cathay Pacific? We have always regarded Cathay Pacific as a British airline when booking regional journeys. Are we to regard them as such on the London-Hong Kong route. I foresee another silly squabble with Swires if I have to tell them that our staff cannot book by Cathay.
