Thank you for your letter of 19 June about the status of Cathay Pacific as a carrier for members of the Service. We have consulted PSD and MAED. All are agreed that it is entirely appropriate that Cathay Pacific should be treated as a British carrier. The case will be strengthened still further if the appropriate clause in the current Civil Aviation Bill goes through unamended including airlines ". with their head office in a depadent territory in the definition of 'British airline' The report stage of that section of the Bill is being taken very shortly.
